World Dead Hang Championship
Film one clip. Hang from almost anything. Verified needs a regulation bar and the right form.
How to film
One continuous clip. Full body in frame from start to finish. Timer is optional. If you skip it, WDHC may add an official timer after approval.
Timer optional
Full body
Arms mostly straight
Feet free
One clip
Open board
WDHC two-hand dead hang. This is the open board. Guinness lists its own dead hang title; see the Guinness benchmark boards below.
Two hands on the bar, overhand grip, feet free. The clock runs while both hands stay in contact with the bar.
A hand may stretch, open, or shift as long as skin is still touching the bar.
Unverified: a quick regrip can still count as a standard dead hang.
Verified: both hands stay on. If a hand comes off, that hang is alternating, or keep it unverified standard.
Two paths
Hang from almost anything, or go official regulation. Pro is verified 18+.
Bar, ledge, knurl, grip. Almost any hang surface ranks you on the board.
Regulation bar, about 1.25 in / 32 mm. A close-up of the bar in the same clip is preferred. If the bar is clearly a standard steel pull-up bar of regulation size with no pads, the reviewer may verify it from the clip without a close-up. If you use a hangboard, measure the mm depth. The hang has to match the type.
At a sanctioned WDHC in-person event, on-video bar diameter, brand, or surface proof is not required. The host supplies a regulation bar, and event verification covers the hardware. You still film one continuous hang with your full body in frame and clean form. A timer in the video is optional.
Formats
Open a type for the rule. Open board is the standard dead hang. Specialty times: hang types and specialty tiers.
WDHC boards map to Guinness World Records titles, but a WDHC mark is not a Guinness title. Each row shows the Guinness benchmark and its percent of mark on the leaderboard (for example, 0:50 against 1:16 is 66%).

Women's board. A standard dead hang of at least 2 minutes (Guinness states 2:00 for this title). Ranked by the athlete's age; a longer hang breaks ties. Guinness mark 91 y 51 d (Ann Crile Esselstyn, 7 Sep 2026). Guinness page. Open this board.
Men's board. A standard dead hang of at least 2 minutes, ranked by the athlete's age. No Guinness men's title was found, so this is a WDHC board with WDHC wording. Flag: WDHC wording. No Guinness title found (checked 3 Oct 2026). Open this board.
Not a Guinness title. WDHC marks are ranked from WDHC-reviewed video under WDHC rules. To set the official title, apply to Guinness first; their guideline sheet governs an official attempt. Guinness marks checked 3 Oct 2026.
Standard dead hang
Two hands, overhand, feet free. A hand may stretch or open as long as skin stays on the bar. Unverified can take a quick regrip. Verified both hands stay on, or it is alternating. Deep elbow bend is an active hang. See the Standard dead hang section above.
Active Hang
Two hands, feet free. Shoulders packed and live. Deeper elbow bend is allowed. A set-angle lock-off is its own type. If the chin comes to the bar, it is a chin-over-bar hold, not an active hang.
One-Arm
One working hand on the bar. Free hand stays off the bar and does not assist. Clock starts when the free hand is off and feet are free. The hang ends when the working hand comes completely off. Skin still touching counts.
Alternating One-Arm
Start on one arm, then switch. Each switch needs a full hand off the bar. Skin still touching is not a switch. No two-hand rest. Clock runs through the switches until a foot touches or both hands leave.
Two hands, overhand, feet free. Both elbows stay near 90 degrees. A slide into a dead hang, a pull to chin-over-bar, or a foot touch ends the hold. Separate board. Does not change open rank or Grip Age.
Two hands, overhand, feet free. Both elbows stay near 120 degrees (open L). A slide to nearly straight arms, a close to 90 degrees, or a foot touch ends the hold. Separate board.
One working arm locked near 90 degrees. Free hand off and not assisting. A slide into a one-arm dead hang, a pull to chin height, or a foot touch ends the hold.
One working arm locked near 120 degrees (open L). Free hand off and not assisting. A slide to a straight-arm one-arm hang, a close to 90 degrees, or a foot touch ends the hold.
Two arms, on a bar. Four-finger = 2 fingers on each hand (2+2). Thumbs off. Hang ends when a working finger comes completely off. Skin still touching counts.
Exactly three fingers per hand the whole hang. Unused digits off, including thumbs. Hang ends when a working finger comes completely off.
Exactly two fingers per hand. Unused digits off. Hang ends when a working finger comes completely off.
One finger per hand. Same digit on both hands (both index, both middle, and so on). Everything else off. Hang ends when a working finger comes completely off.
One working hand. Two-finger or one-finger. Free hand off and not assisting. Unused digits off. Hang ends when a working finger comes completely off.
Heaviest Weighted Dead Hang (3-Second Minimum)
Two-arm dead hang plus visible added load (plates, belt, or vest). The hang must last at least 3 seconds to count. A shorter hang is not ranked. Enter added weight only, not bodyweight plus load. Board ranks by added weight: the heaviest load wins, and the same load held longer ranks higher. Load must stay on for the whole hang. Holds of 30 seconds or more also count on the Heaviest Weighted Dead Hang (30-Second Minimum) board.
Towel hang plus visible added load. Grip the towel, not the bar. No stirrup knots. Enter added weight only. Board ranks by time. Load must stay on for the whole hang.
Same two-arm weighted dead hang, but only holds of 30 seconds or more count. Visible added load. Heaviest added weight wins. Extra time does not beat more weight. Enter added weight only. A hang of 3 to 29 seconds is submitted to Heaviest Weighted Dead Hang (3-Second Minimum) instead. A hang under 3 seconds does not count on either board. This is a WDHC board, not a Guinness World Records title.
Same time or 30-second load boards, one-arm or fingers. Load must be visible. Enter added weight only. Free hand off on one-arm versions.
Thighs stay at or above parallel to the floor (hip angle 90 degrees or tighter). The hang ends when a thigh drops below parallel, a knee tucks past a soft bend, a foot touches, a hand leaves, or a kip unloads the shoulders. Official time is the last full second before the break. Full tables: hang types and specialty tiers.
Two towels over a bar. Grip the towel, not the bar. No stirrup knots, wraps that lock the hand, or gloves. Verified towel hangs need a regulation bar under the towels.
Chin stays clearly above the bar the whole time. If it drops to bar height, the hold ends. Feet free. No kipping to reset the chin.
One hand. Chin stays clearly above the bar for the whole hold. The free hand stays off the bar, off the working arm and off your body. If the chin drops to bar height or below, the hold ends. Not a dead hang. Separate board, one per grip.
Both palms toward you. Feet free. Same contact rule as the dead hang: skin on the bar counts, full hand off ends it. Does not count on the open board.
One overhand hand and one underhand hand. Feet free. Same contact rule. Does not count on the open board.
Two hands on a fingerboard or hangboard, not a round pull-up bar. Call the hold (edge, pocket, sloper). Hang ends when a working finger or hand comes completely off. Does not count on the open board.
